Patemon Village in Seririt District, Buleleng Regency, still performs the Ngaben cremation ceremony using open burning with firewood. This traditional practice creates several problems, including high wood consumption, substantial costs, long cremation duration, and thick smoke that potentially pollutes the environment and affects public health. This community service program aims to implement appropriate technology in the form of an eco-friendly cremation stove to improve the efficiency of the cremation process without reducing the sacred value of the ritual. The implementation methods include problem identification, design and fabrication of the stove, socialization and training for residents, application in several Ngaben ceremonies, and technical and social evaluation through combustion parameter measurements and questionnaires. The results show that the stove can shorten cremation time by approximately 40%, reduce firewood consumption by 45–50%, decrease ash residue, and significantly lower smoke intensity. Firewood costs also decline, while the majority of community members and traditional leaders consider the technology easy to operate and consistent with customary procedures. The eco-friendly cremation stove can thus serve as a sustainable solution that integrates technical efficiency, environmental conservation, and the preservation of the Ngaben tradition in Patemon Village.
