Abstract

This study aims to compare the time and cost efficiency between the use of bamboo scaffolding and metal scaffolding in the floor slab casting work of multi-story buildings. The research was conducted on two different construction projects: a two-story residential house using bamboo scaffolding with an area of 103.8 m², and a three-story villa using metal scaffolding with an area of 171.914 m². Data were collected through field observation, interviews, and analysis of documents and shop drawings. The results show that in terms of cost, bamboo scaffolding has a unit cost of Rp 125,780.00/m², which is higher than scaffolding at Rp 81,322.92/m² due to the longer installation duration. However, in terms of time efficiency, metal scaffolding is proven to be 5.678 times faster than bamboo scaffolding. This speed advantage is attributed to the modular system of scaffolding, which simplifies installation. Although scaffolding is superior in terms of execution time, bamboo scaffolding can still be considered for low-budget projects since the materials can be reused. Therefore, the selection of scaffolding type should take into account the cost, time, and overall project conditions.
