Abstract

Redesigning building structures from reinforced concrete to steel is one of the solutions to improve construction efficiency from both technical and economic perspectives. This study was conducted on the construction project of SMPN 4 Kuta Utara, focusing on analyzing changes in structural element dimensions and comparing the costs between using reinforced concrete and steel as the primary material. The planning process utilized SAP2000 version 22 software and referred to the applicable Indonesian National Standards (SNI). The analysis results showed that replacing concrete with steel led to smaller cross-sectional dimensions, lighter building weight, and shorter construction time due to the use of prefabricated components. Although steel structures have higher unit material costs, the efficiency in execution and reduced labor requirements provide economic advantages. Overall, steel structures are considered superior in terms of construction speed and dimensional efficiency, although careful cost planning is still necessary to ensure the project remains within budget.
