Abstract

The pavement condition on the Padangkerta-Pande Besi section of Karangasem Regency has deteriorated due to high traffic loads and C-shaped excavation activities. Damage such as alligator cracks, hairline cracks, edge breaks, potholes, and grain detachments disrupt traffic comfort, safety, and efficiency. This issue requires an evaluation of the pavement condition to determine an appropriate repair strategy. This study aims to identify the type of damage, assess the pavement condition using the Bina Marga Surface Distress Index (SDI) method, and provide treatment recommendations. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining visual surveys and direct measurements (primary data) with secondary data from the Public Works and Housing Agency. Analysis was conducted on 20 segments spanning 2 km to calculate the area, percentage, and severity of damage. The study results showed a total damage area of ​​1,455.45 m², with hairline cracks predominating (807 m²). The SDI value places the road in the severely damaged category, recommending reconstruction and rehabilitation based on the type of damage. In conclusion, the SDI evaluation effectively determines repair priorities to maintain the road's sustainable function.
