Abstract

Soil has an important role in civil engineering that must be considered in the construction world. One of
the things that planners and builders often face (especially for a road pavement), is how to deal with poor
soil so that it can be used as a support material. Stabilization using sand is one way to meet the desired
soil strength. This research was conducted in the laboratory by means of compaction testing using a
standard proctor, to obtain the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content. The test object is clay
mixed with sand with a percentage of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% then the sample is tested for compaction. the
maximum density of the original clay is 1.341 kg/cm3 with an optimum moisture content of 30.50%. The
addition of sand in the soil increases the dry density of the soil linearly. It was observed that the sand
addition variable of 5%, 10%, 15 and 20% had an effect of 98.1% on the dry density of the soil, while the
remaining 1.9% was influenced by other variables outside the study. Without the addition of sand, the dry
weight of the soil was 1.341 kg/cm3, then increased by 0.0083 kg/cm3 for each addition of 1% sand content.
The dry density of the soil increases with the addition of the sand content, indicating that the maximum dry
density of the soil also increases
