Abstract

Bamboo is a fast-growing plant and an environmentally friendly material that can be used
as a substitute material for wood, especially in the construction sector. Although bamboo
has many advantages in terms of strength and environmental aspects, the use of bamboo
material in the construction sector is still limited due to its non-prismatic and irregular
shape. Nowadays, many engineered bamboo products have been developed to optimize
the utilization of bamboo in the construction sector. Several engineered bamboo products
that have been manufactured are laminated bamboo, cross laminated bamboo, bamboo
scrimber, and bamboo particleboard. This paper presents a comprehensive study related
to engineered bamboo products, from its production process to its application in the
construction sector. In general, the mechanical properties of engineered bamboo products
are comparable to those of bamboo culm. Several aspects that can affect the mechanical
properties of engineered bamboo products are the species of bamboo being used,
preservatives and adhesives, the method of preservation and gluing being applied, as well
as the bamboo particle size. Bamboo engineered products can be applied to various
construction elements, including beams, columns, and roof structures
