Using a mixed methods approach and sequential explanatory design, the study maps levels of compliance with and perceptions of Muslim-friendly tourism and analyses the dynamics of the interaction between the two paradigms. Findings indicate that although the majority of the tourism industry in Lombok has adopted halal tourism principles, their implementation remains variable, particularly in the micro and small business sector. Furthermore, tensions exist between global market needs and Sharia principles that may impact Lombok's image as a Muslim-friendly destination. This study proposes an integration model that emphasises flexibility in service delivery and market segmentation to achieve a balance between halal and conventional tourism, which is expected to strengthen Lombok's competitiveness as an inclusive global destination. These findings provide an important contribution to the development of more adaptive and relevant halal tourism in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
Muharis Muharis, Taufik, Baiq Nadia Nirwana, Fidiatunisa, Sirajudin Copyright (c) 2026 Soshum: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora https://scholar.google.co.id/citations?hl=id&user=ZV6y4p8AAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3059 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Women's Digital Expression: Advocacy for Women's Rights in Post-2015 Yemen through Social Media https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3104
This article discusses women's advocacy in Yemen through social media following the outbreak of civil war in 2015 between the Houthis and the government of Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi. The novelty of this study is its integration of women's engagement in physical public spaces into digital ones and its emphasis on social media's role as an alternative public space for advocacy amidst the ongoing conflict, which limits conventional civic participation. The presence of Saudi Arabia as one of the major powers in the Middle East in the Yemen conflict has actually worsened the political instability in the country due to the intervention carried out by Saudi Arabia to prevent the Houthis from taking power in Yemen. To analyse, this study applies liberal feminist theory using a qualitative research design and analyses data narratively, drawing on primary and secondary sources. Through a case study of women in Yemen, the findings demonstrate how Yemeni women engage in digital advocacy by sharing personal experiences of gender-based violence, promoting legal awareness regarding women’s protection rights through written content, and fostering solidarity among women. Overall, the study shows that social media plays a crucial role in enabling women’s advocacy at a time when the state has been unable to ensure women’s safety and protection.
Ulfianti Ulfi, Mohammad Izdiyan Muttaqin Copyright (c) 2026 Soshum: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora https://scholar.google.co.id/citations?hl=id&user=ZV6y4p8AAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3104 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Aesthetics and Functionality of Graphic Design in Instagram Feed: Global Challenges and Opportunities https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/2582
This study aims to explore the relationship and balance between aesthetic values and functional aspects in the context of graphic design on the Instagram platform, especially in the arrangement of user feeds. Through a qualitative approach by applying Miles and Huberman's analysis model, this study investigates how graphic designers integrate aesthetically appealing visual elements while maintaining functionality that optimises user experience and communication effectiveness. The data collection process was carried out through in-depth observation of Instagram feeds from various professional designers, accompanied by analysis of related documents and literature. The research findings show significant developments in the approach to Instagram feed design, where there is a dynamic balance between global trends and local adaptations. This study identifies innovative strategies used by designers to overcome the technical limitations of the Instagram platform, as well as optimise the visual potential to increase user engagement. The main contribution of this study lies in the development of a strategic framework for graphic design practitioners in maximising the aesthetic value and functionality in Instagram feeds. By understanding the dynamics of the interaction between these two aspects, designers can create visual content that is not only visually appealing but also effective in achieving communication goals in this competitive digital era.
Wahyu Kurniawan, Della Naradika Copyright (c) 2026 Soshum: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora https://scholar.google.co.id/citations?hl=id&user=ZV6y4p8AAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/2582 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Creative Space: Synergy Between Interior Design and Textured Art Collections https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3068
This study examines the synergy between interior design and the appreciation of texture art through the framework of Csikszentmihalyi’s Creative Systems Theory, focusing on the interaction among individual, domain, and social dimensions in shaping the creative practices of collector-designers. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed, with data obtained through semi-structured in-depth interviews with professional interior designers who are also active collectors of texture art. The analysis was conducted using a systematic thematic approach based on the three dimensions of the theory. The results indicate that the individual dimension is reflected in the integration of design principles and aesthetic sensitivity, flow experiences when interacting with artworks, and reflections on textural expressiveness beyond technical aspects. Domain interaction generates a new aesthetic framework, in which classical design principles enrich material interpretation and exposure to experimental art encourages a paradigm shift toward adaptive approaches. Meanwhile, the field dimension operates through networks with galleries, curators, and artists that facilitate creative dialogue and curatorial intuition. This study contributes to the understanding of cross-disciplinary creativity, showing that innovation emerges through dynamic interactions between individual combinatorial abilities, knowledge exchange across domains, and the support of a creative ecosystem that fosters collaboration and reflection in contemporary design and art practices.
I Ketut Mahendra, Kayla Annabelle Tjendjaja, Masnuna Copyright (c) 2026 Soshum: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora https://scholar.google.co.id/citations?hl=id&user=ZV6y4p8AAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3068 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Resisting Patriarchy through Language: A Faircloughian Critical Discourse Analysis of Melawan Bahasa Patriarki https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/2878
Language functions not only as a medium of communication but also as a site where ideology and power relations are produced and contested. This study examines how patriarchal ideology is both constructed and resisted in Chapter V of Putu Pratiwi’s Melawan Bahasa Patriarki, entitled “Liberation of Women from Patriarchal Language Today.” Drawing on Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model of Critical Discourse Analysis, the research analyses the text at the levels of textual features, discursive practice, and socio-cultural practice. Using a qualitative approach, selected excerpts are examined with attention to lexical choices, transitivity, sentence mood (affirmative and imperative constructions), modality, and intertextuality. The findings indicate that patriarchal ideology is embedded in gender-marked vocabulary and epistemic modalities that normalise male-centred perspectives. At the same time, the text constructs resistance through imperative appeals, the redefinition of feminine identity, and the introduction of alternative terminology. Discursively, readers—particularly women—are positioned as active agents of resistance. Socio-culturally, the analysis shows how linguistic practices both reflect and challenge broader patriarchal structures. This study contributes to Critical Discourse Analysis and feminist linguistics by demonstrating how linguistic microstructures interact with social contexts to sustain and resist patriarchal power in contemporary Indonesian discourse.
Ida Ayu Trisna Adiwulandari Ida Ayu Trisna, I Nyoman Darma Putra, Ade Prameswari Angelita Copyright (c) 2026 Soshum: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora https://scholar.google.co.id/citations?hl=id&user=ZV6y4p8AAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/2878 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Social Value Representation in Popular Balinese Love Song Lyrics: A Sociopragmatic Analysis https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3098
This study examines the forms and sociocultural functions of implicature in popular Balinese love song lyrics performed by Dek Ulik, focusing on four songs: Tiang Demen, Beli Sayang, Boya Je Alpaka, and Ratih Kamajaya. Employing a descriptive qualitative design with a sociopragmatic orientation, the study applies content analysis to song lyrics as cultural discourse. Data consist of words, phrases, clauses, and lyric lines containing implicature, analysed through pragmatic matching techniques grounded in implicature theory proposed by Grice (1975), politeness principles by Geoffrey Leech (2016), and the sociopragmatic framework of Jacob L. Mey (2021). The findings reveal that both conventional and conversational implicatures are employed to convey romantic meanings indirectly; however, conversational implicatures predominate (82%), while conventional implicatures account for 18%. Indirectness is realised through mitigation strategies, conditional expressions, rhetorical questioning, metaphorical references, and culturally shared symbolism. These pragmatic mechanisms encode socio-cultural values such as politeness, loyalty, filial respect, emotional restraint, and spiritual commitment. Such patterns reflect characteristics of high-context communication, where meanings are often implied to maintain interpersonal harmony. The study demonstrates that Balinese popular love songs function not merely as entertainment but as cultural texts that negotiate romantic relationships within local moral, familial, and spiritual frameworks. The novelty of this research lies in highlighting implicature as a sociocultural mechanism through which romantic discourse in Balinese popular music articulates culturally grounded relational values.
Suari Agung Copyright (c) 2026 Soshum: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora https://scholar.google.co.id/citations?hl=id&user=ZV6y4p8AAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3098 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0000 Morphological and Cultural Linguistic Approaches on Lexicon ‘Mama’ in the Dengka Dialect https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3128
Dengka dialect is spoken in Rote Northwest District, Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province. Dengka is one of eighteen Rote dialects. This study focuses on the Dengka dialect spoken by the Oetutulu villagers. The goal of the research is to document the Dengka dialect while also learning about the speaker's culture. The study questions concern the use of the lexicon 'mama' based on morphology and cultural linguistics. In the Rote Dengka Society, the verb 'mama' is exclusively used to describe the subject's behaviour, which is to chew sirih-pinang, a herbal chew made from areca nut, betel, lime, and tobacco. The use of morphology and cultural-linguistics theoretical approaches is designed to get the best possible results in analysis. The research method includes careful observation and interaction with each technique. The descriptive qualitative technique is used to describe all data. Data collected from an informant in Oetutulu Village with certain requirements. The findings of this study reveal that the lexicon 'mama' can be used in morphology in several ways, including: a) as a free morpheme, b) by affixation, and c) through full and partial reduplication. Meanwhile, in cultural linguistics, the researcher discovered nine domains which apply the lexicon 'mama': a) marriage domain, b) death domain, c) family domain, d) mutual assistance domain, e) government domain, f) togetherness domain, g) reconciliation domain, h) social domain, and i) figurative language domain. The result of this research is that to make a culture documnentation that related to ‘mama culture’ (budaya makan sirih) as an inheritance cultural for the youth generation at Dengka society and for the readers, also for the next researchers to make a research that has the same topics in another culture.
Dian Rahmani Putri, Efron Erwin Yohanis Loe Copyright (c) 2026 Soshum: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora https://scholar.google.co.id/citations?hl=id&user=ZV6y4p8AAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3128 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0000 The Influence of Integrating Multicultural and Ethical Values on the Effectiveness of Digital-Based Islamic Religious Education Learning https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/2601
This study aims to analyse the influence of multicultural and ethical values integration on the effectiveness of digital-based Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at UIN Jambi. The primary objective is to determine how these values contribute to shaping tolerant and responsible student behaviour within a digital landscape often marked by polarisation. A quantitative research design was employed, utilising regression analysis to test the correlation between value-based pedagogy and learning outcomes. The population consisted of 310 sixth-semester students, with a representative sample selected via Slovin’s formula. The findings indicate that multicultural values significantly foster tolerance and appreciation for intellectual diversity, particularly in the study of Islamic jurisprudence, while ethical values promote academic honesty and responsible technology use. The study’s novelty is established through its empirical evidence that the integration of these specific values accounts for a substantial 61.8% of the variance in digital learning effectiveness. This study provides empirical evidence from Islamic higher education on how multicultural and ethical value integration predicts digital learning effectiveness. Despite these effective outcomes, the results suggest that further improvements are required in student interaction and assessment strategies. The findings suggest that value-embedded digital pedagogy is essential for developing technologically competent and ethically grounded graduates.
Rapiko, M. There has been an abundance of studies conducted on this topic; however, most of them were conducted on special related subject matters, and there are limited resources for exploring strategies of how multicultural values can be implemented in all dimensions of school life. This study aims to explore strategies for incorporating multicultural values in an inclusive school. The study was conducted in the form of a case study in a private full-inclusion primary school in North Bali, considered a favourite and successful school in implementing multicultural values by the society around the school. The teachers have received specialized trainings to support and teach autistic students in an inclusive class. The school has 12 students with mild autism spectrum disorder (ASD) integrated with neurotypical students in every grade from grades 1 to 6. The data were gathered over a period of six months through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis and were subsequently analysed qualitatively. This study found three main results. First, the school uses eight integrated strategies, five through activities that are part of the curriculum and three through activities that are not part of the curriculum. Second, these strategies have effects on many levels, such as more empathy, cooperation, less prejudice, more cultural pride, better critical thinking, and stronger social ties. Third, teachers' answers to the questionnaire show that they have consistently strong positive views about the program's cognitive, interpersonal, civic, and global outcomes. The study implied that the strategies positively influence students' attitudes and holistic development.
Ni Nyoman Padmadewi, Luh Putu Artini, Nengah Suparta, Putu Kerti Nitiasih, I Gede Wahyu Suwela Antara, Ni Made Yuniari Copyright (c) 2026 Soshum: Jurnal Sosial dan Humaniora https://scholar.google.co.id/citations?hl=id&user=ZV6y4p8AAAAJ&view_op=list_works&sortby=pubdate https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/2712 Tue, 31 Mar 2026 00:00:00 +0000 ELT in the Margins: A Competency-Based Inquiry into Blended English Instruction in Maluku's Outer Regions https://ojs2.pnb.ac.id/index.php/SOSHUM/article/view/3150
This study investigates the effectiveness and challenges of integrating blended learning and competency-based approaches in English language teaching (ELT) in remote areas of Maluku. Limited access to educational resources, including instructional materials and teacher training, remains a major constraint affecting learning quality. A competency-based approach emphasises measurable English skills and learning outcomes, while blended learning combines face-to-face instruction with digital technologies to enhance flexibility and access. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of curriculum documents in several remote schools. The findings indicate that competency-based blended learning has the potential to reduce geographical barriers and promote more active student engagement. However, its implementation is hindered by inadequate technological infrastructure, limited teacher digital competence, and challenges in aligning the curriculum with local contexts and national standards. This study highlights the need for sustained policy support, continuous teacher professional development, and stakeholder collaboration to improve the quality of ELT in marginalised regions.
Franklin Untailawan, Asweres A.
