Abstract

Facebook is one of the social media as a means of using Indonesian. Various linguistic problems can be studied in the use of Indonesian on Facebook social media. One of them is code mixing. For this reason, the aim of this research is to analyze the types of code mixing and the factors that influence the occurrence of code mixing.  This research is descriptive qualitative in nature. Data was collected using the listening method assisted by note-taking techniques and then analyzed using the qualitative descriptive method. Presentation of data analysis results used formal and informal methods. The results of this research obtained two types of code mixing, namely code mixing based on absorption elements and code mixing based on the level of linguistic devices. Based on the origin of the borrowed language elements, there are three types of code mixing, namely: internal code mixing, external code mixing, and mixed code mixing. Code mixing includes elements of the borrowed language originating from Balinese and Javanese, code mixing outside of the elements of the absorbed language originates from English, and code mixing mixes elements of the absorbed language from Balinese and English. Based on the level of linguistic devices, code mixing is found at the word and phrase level. The existence of code mixing is caused by situational factors and speaker factors. Code mixing is found in informal situations, while the speaker factor is found in educated and bilingual speakers.
